TetburyStuff: stuff to do in tetbury and beyond (part of tetbury online)

stay safe online

the internet's a safe place so long as you use it properly. here's our guide to staying safe.

1. never give out your personal details online - this means your address, phone number, e-mail address and of course stuff like your bank account number! you might even want to think about keeping your full name offline and adopting a nickname (or "nick") instead.

2. if someone talks to you online and wants to meet up, tell a parent or guardian! they may be genuine, but they could be telling big lies about who they are!

3. only visit websites you can trust (like this one!). some websites will install nasty stuff on your computer which could cause it to break or lose all of the stuff on it. that isn't good!

4. if you're worried about what's on a site, check with a parent or just surf somewhere else.

5. if you get asked for a password (don't worry, you won't need one here), make it hard to steal. avoid pet's names, birthdays and phone numbers. they're far too predictable.

6. don't use your computer for too long. sitting at it for hours on end can actually cause you problems in later life - people can even end up in wheelchairs because their back is bent or wear glasses because they've gone square-eyed!

7. don't abuse other people online! avoid bad language as it just makes people angry!
