Diary of a Woolsack Champion!
Oh
my god, I can't believe it - I'm the Women's World Champion Woolsack
Racer! There was some tough international competition in my heat
from Miranda, but I posted a quick time (1m14) and practising
lifting the woolsack had helped. The crowds really got me through
the last half of the race - I thought Miranda might be catching me
up! Someone shouted 'Dig Deep' and that really helped, but I wobbled
towards the end! I'm so pleased to have won - I can't believe I'm a
World Champion!

Diary of a Woolsack Virgin (3)
AGH!!!!
I've seen the hill for the first time! First from a distance, and I
was pretty scared, but then from a close-up I'm even more worried!
Not much of a crowd there yet. I got a few strange looks as I tested
the 1 in 4 hill, and they looked at me even more weirdly when I told
them I wanted to enter! I was quite slow going up the hill and I
think the weight will slow me down even more, but I just hope the
crowds will pull me through! I'll let you know how I do later!

Bring a brolly
It's not looking quite so good - showers are expected up until
lunchtime at least. Hopefully it'll begin to clear in time for the
Woolsack Races, but there won't be much sun!

Diary of a Woolsack Virgin (2)
I've
just run up the stairs with a hiking rucksack on my shoulders full
of 15 litres of water. We added a cushion and a rug and I felt a bit
unbalanced! I had three attempts at getting it on my shoulder. It
didn't always go right! So how am I feeling? A bit more confident
that I can get the weight on my shoulders, but still scared by the
hill!

Weather Update
The weather's still looking good for Monday. Temperatures of
15°c are predicted, with sunshine and clouds throughout the day.
There'll be a light breeze which might make it feel a couple of
degrees cooler. There's good news for those with sensitive skin -
the Sun Index is only 2, which is at the low end of the index. And
finally, if you're planning your weekend, it's expected to be rainy
and windy in Tetbury in Sunday, so Saturday's better suited to a day
out.

Vantage Points
With so many people trying to watch Woolsack Day, where's the
best place to get a good view? The road is pretty narrow at the
start-point, so it might be best to find out what's happening there
from the commentary team. At the mid-point on the hill, it broadens
out a little bit. But this is probably the most popular part of the
course, so might be cramped. The bottom of the hill is always a good
bet - you can see most of the way up Gumstool Hill and some of the
races start at the bottom anyway. There might be a bit of room on
the bridge overlooking Millennium Green. Or of course, there's the
perfect position - from an overlooking window. Unfortunately these
might be limited to the people living there!

Diary of a Woolsack Virgin (1)
Hi,
I'm Helen Murray, a woolsack virgin. I'm going to be competing
in the 2007 Woolsack Day women's race for the first time. I
agreed to enter the race during a game of badminton...quite why I'm
not sure.
I've never run up a steep hill carrying a 15kg sack before but with
6 days to go I'm looking forward to the challenge.
The training isn't going as well as I would have liked - I haven't
managed to find a big sack yet or a steep hill. But I'm hoping
my daily runs might stand me in good stead.
I'll let you know how my training's going throughout the week!

Weather
Forecast
So what's the weather going to be like on Woolsack Day? Well,
the Met Office's long-range forecast predicts high pressure for the
end of May and the start of June, with a few summer thunderstorms
getting in the way on occasion. Temperatures might peak in the low
20s, and while it might be a bit damp in the north of England and
Scotland, Tetbury should be fairly dry around the Bank Holiday
Weekend! So good news for competitors and spectators alike.
